Complete Homesick and collect its rewards
To complete Homesick in Valor Mortis, collect the Longing Wife Letter near Caverns > Last Sunlight, find the Death Notice on the boat beyond the Grenadier, then return to the first letter's location. Let William finish speaking to complete the quest and receive Bottomless Well Amber and 2,000 Catalysts.
Reach Last Sunlight in the Caverns
Start Homesick during Chapter 4: Dark Descent, using the Caverns > Last Sunlight Lantern as your starting point. If you still need access to the Caverns, rescue Louis and speak with James at the Abandoned Church to receive the Cave Grotto Key. That key opens the cliffside door across the grapple point.
Find the letters and return to the memory
- Enter the area beyond the Last Sunlight Lantern to reach the Concerned Mother's memory.
- Pick up the Longing Wife Letter beside the seated memory apparition to start Homesick.
- Descend through the hole opposite the fire in the large cavern to enter the tunnel below.
- Follow the tunnel into the area with a chest near a Grenadier, your next route landmark.
- Jump across the water just past where the Grenadier walks to reach the boat holding the Death Notice.
- Pick up the Death Notice from the boat to obtain the letter needed for your return visit.
- Return to the cave location where you collected the Longing Wife Letter to trigger William's dialogue.
- Wait for William to finish speaking so Homesick completes and grants its rewards.
Bottomless Well, Catalysts and achievements
Homesick rewards you with Bottomless Well Amber and 2,000 Catalysts. Bottomless Well gradually replenishes depleted Nephtoglobin, the resource your Transmutations consume. You can equip the Amber through the level-up menu at a Lantern.
Homesick has no reward-changing choice and no dedicated quest achievement. Its Bottomless Well reward is relevant to Ambersmith, the achievement for gathering Ambers. If you already found the earlier Battlefield copy, the duplicate from Homesick can help upgrade Bottomless Well.
Find a missed note or finish an active quest
If Homesick has not started, check beside the Concerned Mother's seated memory apparition. Watching the memory does not replace picking up the Longing Wife Letter. Collect the note there before following the tunnel route.
The chest near the Grenadier contains Lucky Shot Amber. Your Homesick objective is the Death Notice on the boat beyond that enemy. If you have opened the chest but still need the letter, continue past the Grenadier's position and look across the water.
If the Grenadier is making the crossing difficult, shoot the orange growth above him to bring stalactites down onto him. Then continue toward the boat beyond his position. Collect the Death Notice before heading back to the family memory.
If you have the Death Notice but Homesick remains active, return to the exact spot where you found the Longing Wife Letter. Stay there until William finishes speaking, since collecting the Death Notice alone does not complete the quest. Homesick also remains available to finish after the story.
