How to complete The King of Smugglers
Complete The King of Smugglers by collecting the Cargo Manifest and Toothless Jack's Journal near Ship Graveyard, then following the trail to Crusty Benek's Journal in the Harbour residence. Collect the nearby Masterwork Firearm Parts and open the chest for Butcher's Carnage Amber before leaving.
Get Shield before returning to Ship Graveyard
Ship Graveyard is in Vale of Wrath, the region explored during Chapter 5: Crime. Return with Shield Transmutation from University > Main Hall, since this quest takes you through poisonous fog. Grappling and a wall jump are also part of the route to the starting document.
Shield is obtained through story progression in the university. Follow the library route across the chandelier into the large open room, where the pickup is at the top of the stairs. Once you have it, use Vale of Wrath > Ship Graveyard for the opening clues and The Outskirts > Harbour for the final part. You can also leave this quest for cleanup after the story.
Find the Cargo Manifest and Toothless Jack's Journal
- From the Ship Graveyard Lantern, grapple back toward the village to reach the approach to the poison field.
- Take the right-hand route through the poisonous fog with Shield protecting you to enter the area containing the quest's opening clues.
- Follow the route past the boat encounter with soldiers and flying enemies to reach the wall jump leading onto the cargo.
- Wall jump onto the cargo to reach the crates where the Cargo Manifest is located.
- Pick up the Cargo Manifest from the crates to start The King of Smugglers.
- Collect Toothless Jack's Journal from the ground beneath the pier, behind the lower ladder, to pick up the easily missed clue in this area.
Obtain the Harbour Residence Key
Continue the investigation from The Outskirts > Harbour. Your next destination is the ship beyond the poison passage, where the miniboss carries the Harbour Residence Key.
- Cross the poison passage from the Harbour Lantern with Shield to reach the side dock.
- Enter the ship's hold to follow the route toward the miniboss at its far end.
- Pull the blue flower in the hold to continue toward Crusty Benek's Torn Letter.
- Pick up Crusty Benek's Torn Letter to collect the clue inside the ship's hold.
- Defeat the miniboss at the end of the hold to obtain the Harbour Residence Key.
Read Crusty Benek's Journal and collect the loot
- Return toward the poison area to find the residence to the left of the iron gates.
- Unlock the residence with the Harbour Residence Key to gain access to the building.
- Climb to the top floor to reach the table holding Crusty Benek's Journal.
- Pick up Crusty Benek's Journal from the table to complete the quest's final journal interaction.
- Open the chest to the left of the journal table to collect Butcher's Carnage Amber.
- Collect the nearby Masterwork Firearm Parts before leaving with the quest's firearm upgrade material.
Rewards and achievement progress
The King of Smugglers has no dedicated quest-completion achievement. Its rewards are useful for firearm upgrades and Amber collection, so collect the nearby loot during your final visit.

Masterwork Firearm Parts are used for the final firearm upgrade to level 10. Upgrading a firearm to its maximum level unlocks Gun of Glory, so keep this material in mind when choosing which firearm to finish upgrading.
Ambersmith concerns collecting unique Ambers; duplicate pickups are not required. Butcher's Carnage also has a pickup in the chest on the balcony immediately to the left when you enter Ship Graveyard's poison-field area. If you already collected that Amber, the Harbour chest provides another copy.
When the quest remains active
- Why is The King of Smugglers still active after I finished it?
- Check for Toothless Jack's Journal beneath the pier near the Cargo Manifest. Walk beneath the dock toward the lower ladder, then look behind it without climbing; the journal is on the ground. Players who had already followed the Harbour route reported the quest completing when they collected this missing note.
If you already have Toothless Jack's Journal, check that you collected Crusty Benek's Torn Letter, read Crusty Benek's Journal upstairs and opened the nearby chest. Checking these interactions can help identify a missed objective, but it does not guarantee a fix for every stuck quest state.
