Return the belongings, then visit the barn loft
To complete The Scarecrow in Valor Mortis, collect the Lover’s Pendant and Letter with a Drawing, return both to the body on the scarecrow post, then interact with the pillows in the barn loft. That final interaction completes the quest and awards Bountiful Harvest Amber.
Start from the Fields Lantern
The quest takes place in Fallen Village during Chapter 3: Rendezvous, starting near the Fields Lantern. Its route runs through the fields, past a large tree and a house near tall haystacks, before finishing upstairs in a barn. You can follow the quest through to its reward during this chapter.
The Scarecrow walkthrough
- Speak to the body on the scarecrow post. From the Fields Lantern, follow the paths toward the field and take the road leading right to find it. Interact with the body to begin the quest; speak to it again if you want more information about the belongings you need to recover.
- Collect the Lover’s Pendant beneath the large tree. From the scarecrow, walk toward the barn and take the right-hand path toward the tree. Search the body lying at its base to pick up the pendant.
- Collect the Letter with a Drawing from the upstairs table. Continue along the path to the tall haystacks, where a group of four human enemies attacks. Just beyond that group, take the hill on the left into the house and search its top floor for the letter.
- Return the pendant and letter to the scarecrow. Go back to the body in the field and interact with it to hand over both belongings. This advances the quest to the lovers’ hideaway, which you still need to visit.
- Examine the two pillows in the barn loft. Continue into the next field and look for the barn on the right, recognizable by its diamond-shaped window and the exploding bodies inside. Climb to its top level and interact with the pillows to complete The Scarecrow and receive Bountiful Harvest Amber.
Quest rewards and nearby Amber
Completing The Scarecrow rewards Bountiful Harvest Amber and 6,500 Catalysts. Finish the interaction in the loft before leaving the barn, since returning the belongings alone does not complete the quest. The Scarecrow has no dedicated completion achievement; its Amber is relevant to your collection for Ambersmith.
You can also collect Volatile End Amber while visiting the same barn. Its chest is on the ground floor, at the back behind the exploding bodies. This is a separate pickup from the Bountiful Harvest quest reward, so check downstairs as well as the loft.
Finding the letter and finishing the final interaction
If you cannot find the letter’s house, progress until you open the shortcut gate near the big house leading back to Fields. From the Lantern, head toward the gate into the open area where a Volunteer guards a carriage, then turn left before that gate. Continue through the haystacks toward the house and enter through its back door; the letter is upstairs.
If you are having trouble locating the pendant, look for the tree with a cross resting against it. The pendant is beside the corpse there, along the short path through the field near the scarecrow. Use the tree and cross to identify the pickup spot.
If you have returned both belongings but the quest remains active, continue to the barn loft. The remaining interaction is with the two pillows upstairs, where you examine the lovers’ memory. Opening the ground-floor chest collects Volatile End, but the loft interaction is what finishes The Scarecrow.
