Complete the Quest and Collect the Cellar Amber

To complete The Lost Boy in Valor Mortis, collect Mirek's Note near the Wolfsbane Field Lantern, retrieve the Cellar Key from the cave beyond the miniboss, and return to the house to pick up the cellar note. Open the chest in that cellar to collect Wound that Heals Amber.

Reach Vale of Wrath and Prepare for the Cave

The Lost Boy takes place in Chapter 5: Crime, in Vale of Wrath, near the Wolfsbane Field Lantern. If you are still at the Abandoned Church at the start of that chapter, speak with James to receive the Outward Pass Key. It opens the door across the grapple point, to the right of the door that led into the Caverns.

The cave route uses a grapple point to reach an upper platform. Bring Stasis and grenades for the Risen Sapeur miniboss on that route, as it is immune to fire. Defeating it also gives you Equivalent Exchange Amber while you are working toward the Cellar Key.

From Mirek's Note to the Locked Cellar

  1. Collect Mirek's Note from the bench on the right inside the house to the left of the Wolfsbane Field Lantern. This is the house on the main progression route, and taking the note starts The Lost Boy.
  2. Enter the shortcut cave after destroying the second weak point in the area. The approach runs to the right of the well and across the broken bridges; the cave contains a shortcut back toward the previous area.
  3. Grapple up to the platform in the room on the right inside the cave. This brings you to the miniboss on the route toward the key.
  4. Defeat the Risen Sapeur miniboss to receive Equivalent Exchange Amber.
  5. Follow the ramp behind the miniboss's position into the separate cave area. Look for the chest containing a Blade Upgrade Material as your landmark on the way to the key.
  6. Pick up the Cellar Key beside the body past the Blade Upgrade Material chest. This opens the locked cellar back at the starting house.
  7. Return to the house where you found Mirek's Note. The cellar door is to the right of the place where you first entered the house.
  8. Unlock the cellar door with the Cellar Key to reach the room containing the final note and the Amber chest.
  9. Pick up the note from the table inside the cellar to complete The Lost Boy.
  10. Open the chest in the cellar to collect Wound that Heals Amber before leaving.

The Amber Reward and Achievement Connection

Wound that Heals slowly regenerates lost Health over time. You can equip it through the level-up menu at a Lantern. The Lost Boy has no dedicated completion trophy or achievement, but its Amber is relevant to Ambersmith, the Amber collection achievement. Collecting the cellar note and opening the chest are separate interactions, so make sure you do both.

Missing the Key, Completion, or Reward

  • If the quest has not started, check the bench to the right inside the house near Wolfsbane Field. Pick up Mirek's Note to begin it.
  • If the cellar remains locked, check beyond the miniboss location in the shortcut cave. Follow the ramp into the separate cave area and look beside the body past the Blade Upgrade Material chest for the Cellar Key.
  • If you collected the Amber but the quest is still active, pick up the note on the cellar table. Opening the reward chest is separate from the interaction that completes the quest.
  • If you passed Wolfsbane Field while following the story, you can return to finish The Lost Boy. The quest can still be started and completed after the story.
